IDRALOE™
Aloe: An Ancient Remedy... The beneficial nature of Aloe was known even five thousand years ago. As testimony of its efficacy in ancient times, it was called the “Plant of Immortality” or the “Miracle Plant”. The ancient Egyptians, and the Romans and the Greeks in the Occident, the Babylonians, the Sumerians, the Chinese in the Orient, and the Mayas, the Aztecs and the Indians of North America knew of its properties, proof of which lies in documentary sources. The Egyptians used it to embalm pharaohs and they planted it at the entrance of pyramids so as to indicate to the pharaohs the way to the afterlife. As inventors of the enema, the Egyptians also used it as a laxative.
One of the most famous quotations about Aloe comes from Christopher Columbus: “Four vegetables are essential to a man's health: wheat, grapes, olives and Aloe. The first is a nutrient, the second fortifies the spirit, the third brings harmony, and the fourth heals.” It was only towards the middle of the twentieth century that the anti-oxidizing property of its active principles was accepted, accompanied by extraction research that established the best technique for its stabilization. Since 1959, the therapeutic properties of Aloe have been officially recognized by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
Aloe Vera belongs to the Liliacee family. It is a perennial herb originally from Africa that subsequently spread to other parts of the world. The origins of the its name are not certain, but in Greek als - alos, means a substance that is salty like the sea, while in Arab aloe means bitter, perhaps for the taste of its juice and its shiny clear-like appearance. When it is extracted from the cuticle of the leaf, the gel that issues resembles partially melted ice that has been washed. The leaves are thick and fleshy and can vary anywhere in size from 20 to 60 centimetres. The centre of the plant produces a spike of flowers of various bright colors according to variety.
